COFFEE & ESPRESSO
Espresso as a pigment.
What’s in a name?
The term “heartwood” might conger images of deep purple cedar or warm oak wood turned by a carpenter. It does in fact refer to the dense inner core of a tree trunk that results from transformation over time, strengthening the center of the tree and allowing the rest (sapwood) to continue growing.
Art, much like heartwood, is not always obvious on the surface. You may find more meaningful layers as you look deeper. It can reach us at our core – where we find beauty and joy. The making and medium can make just as much impact as the memory it depicts. Heartwood is highly sought after for its unique qualities and color – just like the art we love.
Heartwood Artistry began in 2017 with the mission to create authentic pieces that celebrate place, discovery, and memories.

Can’t get that wine stain out of your favorite shirt? Was a little wine left in the bottle on the table? Wine makes for a magical pigment on paper. It goes on one color, and dries another. You never quite know how it will turn out.
Did you know coffee and espresso – while being integral parts of our morning ritual, can also be used to paint with? Did I mention it smells like the best part of waking up?
Expressive and magical.
My DH (Dear Husband) has been encouraging me to do this since before our little one (moose) was born. I have two amazing stepsons (the boys), and a 5 month old son (moose). Moose is not his real name, but is his favorite toy and a nickname, as he has been beating the growth curve […]
Good Morning – my name is Lana Thorpe. Each of my older brothers were supposed to be “Lana” – but my mom didn’t give up until she had her “little girl”. To her dismay, I was much more of a little Tom-boy than a little princess. An adventure seeker at heart – blonde hair and […]
These two are trouble. Emma is our too-smart-for-her-own-good lab/golden mix. Calvin is our aggressive lover and golden retriever. He is big, clumsy, and want just wants everyone loving on him at once- all the time.
We’ll be up and running here soon. Until then, please feel free to email with any questions!
